Rock music
The stars within this genre typically have black hair, Dark makeup and dressed mainly in black.

They sound like they're shouting and screaming into the microphone and sometimes have guitar solos.
They usually sing about musical experimentation and/ or Drug relations.
Pop Music
The stars within this genre are usually very trendy and fashionable.

They sound more melodic and electronic. They use guitars/drums/piano.
They Usually sing about past/present relationships,Love and heartbreak.
Classical Music
They look/dressed very smart and formal. Example, Men would be in a suit and tie and women would be in an appropriate dress.
They mostly have brass instruments and piano, which makes it sound soft and usually calming.
Pop music
Target audience for this genre is usually younger and older people of both genres from about 6-21, but more female are targeted.
Magazines that feature this genre is seventeen, billboard, glamour, Q, Cosmopolitan, top of the pops, we love pop and Elle magazine. The radio station they are featured in is BBC radio 1, capital fm, heart and pirate fm.

- Typography: The style and appearance of the text.
- Layout: The way something is arranged/Laid out.
- Lexis: Chosen vocabulary.
- Colour palette: A range of colours used.
- Mis-en-scene: Props, light, costume, setting etc.





- Colour palette is varied but all mostly the same as they us pink, green, blue and some bits of white.
- All seem to be close up but some are half body images.
- The masthead is usually big at the top of the page in a thin font.
- The layout of the magazines are usually main image in the centre of the page and the information is on the bottom and side of the image.

- The colour palette for this magazine is red and black, as these represent gothic as a lot of rockstars are gothic

- Personal identity: Music magazines dress fandom of a specific audience, reinforce the readers sense of being a fan of an artist. Aspirational and iconic role models and legendary musicians. reinforce the readers values.
- Social interaction: music magazines offer news and gossip that might form the basis of real life conversations. MOJO has a section called mind blowers that is an article that may cause debate. the magazine follows a familiar format and offer regular consumption as a form of ritual (relying on a friend)

Baby boomer - A person born in the years following the second world war, where there was a temporary marked increase in the birth rate.
Diversification - The process of varying products.
Audience address- How the text speaks to the audience, and involves and influences them.
Discerning - Having or showing good judgement.
House style- A company's preferred manner of presentation and layout of written material.
Who are they?
- Dave Grohl - He is the lead singer of the foo fighters and the drummer in nirvana, who are a rock band.
- David Gilmore - A guitarist, songwriter and singer who was in Pink Floyd, a rock band who were around 165-2014.
- Nirvana - An american rock band. Old band 1987-1994.
- Lou Reed - American musical, singer and songwriter. A rock artist active from 1958-2013.

* The main cover line is block capital serif font. The font stands out and suggests the heavier side of music and the side of artists/bands you've never seen before behind closed doors. The block capitals connote to big strength and power, linking to the target audience whoa re usually male, as they are seen as strong and powerful.

The Vamps- Somebody to You
- This is a performance video.
- This has some naturalism as they're performing on a beach.
- It follows pop genre conventions
- Diegetic sound is used at the beginning at the beach with wave sounds.
- Editing matches the pace of the song.
- The narrative is linear and developed as it has a story line.
- The camera work is hand held and moves freely.
- It isn't saturation as its not black or white it is more natural colours.

LO: Review representation of videos and practice exam style question
In Somebody To You by The Vamps and Black Magic by Little Mix, they both present different mise-en-scene. Somebody to You is more of an exotic location with teenagers partying with a lot music. It contrasts with a very cinematic and stylised mise-en-scene. Whereas with Black Magic it is a more relatable location giving it realism.

BBC operate §0 national radio stations, with the range of: Radio1, 1x, 2, 3, 4, 4e, 5 Live, 5 Live Sports, 6 and asian network. All are targeted at different audiences.
BBC operate over 40 regional radio stations.
BBC are funded by annual tv licence fees that every British households, companies and organisations have to pay using any time of equipment to receive or record live television and broadcasts.
The competition for PSB radio are commercial radio stations.
Heart radio- Targeted for everyone.
KISS- Targeted for teenagers and young adults.
Capital- Targeted for teenagers and young adults.
Classical FM- Targeted to people who like classical music, stereotypically older generation.
Pirate FM- Targeted for everyone.

BBC radio 1 live lounge.
LO: to explore how BBC radio 1 meets its PSB remit and meets the needs of its target audience.
Public service broadcasting (PSB)- Refers to broadcasting intended for public benefit rather than to serve purely commercial interests. Communications regulator Ofcom requires that certain television and radio broadcasters fulfil certain requirements as part of their license to broadcast. All of the BBC's television and radio stations have a public service remit.
Radio 1 audience is addressed by presenters that are close to the age of their main listeners demographic of 15-29.
Radio 2 has a demographic of 35+, the music playlist and age of presenters represents this - ex radio 1 presenters who were on that station when the radio 2 audience were teenagers now present shows radio 2 such as Tony Blackburn and Steve Wright.
BBC radio 4 has an average demographic of 54, and the tone of the station reflects this in not only in the content, but also in public perception of being worthy and serious and the use of clear diction and formal language.
Radio 1:
- Entertain and range a broad of young listeners.
- Target audience is 15-29
- Should support emerging artists - especially those from the UK
- Should provide a platform for live music.
Look at the radio 1 website: How have they met the remit to entertain and engage a broad range young listeners support emerging uk artists and provide a platform for live music.
They provide support for new music and emerging artists, they also play a range of music genres, their website also provides information about the latest sports. The images they use for the music videos are all very similar in which the artist is stood there performing. The colour palette is bold colours but very warm toned, but still attracts the target audience.
Convergence
Media convergence is a term that can refer to the merging of previously distinct media technologies and media forms due to digitisation and computer networking.
BBC radio 1: the live long can be accessed via the commercial platform of veto.
What advantage is there for (1) the BBC (2) Vevo (3) the audience?
The advantage for vevo is that they are a big company so they get a lot money. Once it is there you can re watch again and again.
The advantage for the audience is that it is quick and easy to access and there are no time limits.

LO: to explore how the BBC is regulated.
Plurality is ensuring there is a diversity of viewpoints available and consumed across and within media enterprise.
Appropriate scheduling is making sure that tv shows / films are put on the tv at times where it will fit the audience, e.g. kids programmes on before 9 o'clock.
- The broadcast will be targeted aged 14-19.
- It will be about best places to eat, up coming festivals and advice on relationships.
- It will be broadcasted after school when they're in the car on the way back from school or at home between 3:30-5.
- It would be broadcasted in a studio because the right equipment would be there and it will be easy to interview people.

The benefit of broadcasting two channels allows artists to be broadcasted across two of the radio platforms, either to a more niche audience or enabling a wider audience for a band.

Presenter for nickelodeon and CBBC.
Started off as a marketing intern at KISS FM.
Nominated as 'rising star' in 2012.
Joined BBC radio 1Xtra as a host of the weekend breakfast show and joined the MTV chart shows.
Went to host the live lounge doing both radio 1 and 1Xtra.
DJ Ace
Ace and Vis, known as The Troublemakers of Radio, are radio DJs and television presenters from south-east London.
They met whilst studying at the Brit school in London.
Known as Ace and Invisible (Vis), after winning a gold Sony Radio Academy Award for their lunchtime show on BBC Radio 1Xtra in 2004, the two later co-presented BBC Radio 1Xtra's drive time show from 4 to 7 pm on weekdays, before moving to the 4 to 7 pm weekend slot. They left BBC Radio 1Xtra in September 2012. They have also co-presented a show on the UK music channel Channel U.
